Slovenia's first independent issue, printed before formal international recognition arrived in January 1992. These low-denomination tolar notes entered circulation in October 1991 following the expiry of the ten-day moratorium after the June declaration of independence — the Yugoslav federal army had withdrawn, and Slovenia needed a functioning currency almost immediately. The 0,50 value was the smallest unit issued in the inaugural series.
Printed by the French security printer Banque de France Imprimerie in Chamalières, which supplied several of the new post-Yugoslav republics during the early 1990s transition period.
