The 0 Euro souvenir note program was launched in 2015 by EuroSouvenir as a legal-tender-adjacent novelty — technically issued under European Central Bank authorization to bear the euro design, but carrying no redemption value. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the continent's major security printers, produced these on polymer rather than the cotton-linen substrate used for genuine euro currency, a deliberate distinction that also improves durability for the collector market.

The Alhambra entry is one of the earlier Spanish-site releases in the program. These notes are sold directly at tourist attractions, bypassing banking channels entirely.
