The 0 Euro souvenir series launched in 2016 was a commercial venture authorized under a legal framework that technically permits euro-denominated collector notes — they are genuine legal tender at face value, though no sane merchant would accept one. Oberthur Fiduciaire printed this Chambord issue in Rennes, applying the same security features used on circulating banknotes: intaglio printing, UV-reactive inks, and a holographic strip. The deliberate over-engineering is part of the pitch.

Chambord was among the earliest subjects in the series, chosen for its international recognition and reliable tourist traffic — the château draws around 800,000 visitors annually.
