EuroSouvenir's 0 Euro souvenir series launched in 2015 as a collaboration with Oberthur Fiduciaire, exploiting a genuine legal loophole: zero-denomination notes are not considered currency under EU law, allowing private entities to issue euro-format collectibles without central bank authorization. The Clos Lucé château in Amboise — where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final three years under the patronage of François I — was among the first wave of cultural sites to participate.

Oberthur printed these on genuine banknote paper with security features intact, which is precisely what drives collector demand.
