The Château fort de Sedan claims the title of largest medieval castle by surface area in Europe — a distinction that makes it a reasonable subject for a souvenir note, even if the "0 Euro" denomination is pure fiction with no legal tender status anywhere. Euro Souvenir's program, launched in 2015, operates entirely outside the European Central Bank's mandate; Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to banknote specification simply because that's what the collector market demands.
The castle itself has been continuously owned by the municipality of Sedan since 1962, having passed through Bourbon, French crown, and military hands over five centuries.
