The EuroSouvenir program launched in 2017 as a licensed collector item bearing the full security printing characteristics of genuine euro banknotes — same Oberthur Fiduciaire production line, same substrate feel — while carrying a face value of zero. The Château d'Amboise issue is among the earlier regional French releases in the series, which quickly expanded to hundreds of sites across Europe.
Amboise itself is where Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519, buried in the château's chapel of Saint-Hubert — a detail that made it an obvious early candidate for the program.
