The 0 Euro souvenir programme launched in 2015 was a commercial venture by UEBC, with notes produced to genuine euro security specifications — including Oberthur's intaglio printing and embedded security features — despite carrying no legal tender status anywhere. Collioure's château, a Templar and then royal fortification at the Mediterranean end of the Pyrenees, was among the earliest sites to participate. The choice of Oberthur Fiduciaire as printer was deliberate: their involvement lent the series the physical credibility that drove collector demand from the outset.
