Legnica — known in German as Liegnitz — was the site of one of the most consequential defeats in medieval European history: the Battle of Legnica in 1241, where Mongol forces under Batu Khan and Subutai destroyed a Polish-German coalition army, killing Duke Henry II of Silesia. The city spent much of the Cold War as home to Soviet Northern Group of Forces headquarters, leaving only after 1993.
Oberthur Fiduciaire prints the entire Euro Souvenir program under license; Pławecka-Jasek is among the relatively few Polish designers to contribute to the series.
