The Descenso Internacional del Sella is a canoe race held annually on the Sella River in Asturias, Spain, first run in 1930 and now one of the oldest and most attended kayak events in Europe. The zero-euro souvenir note series — printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under licensing arrangements — carries no legal tender status anywhere, but ECB tolerance of the format has allowed private issuers to sell them commercially since around 2015. Each note is individually numbered, which is the primary mechanism driving collector demand in an otherwise unlimited print market.
