Euro Souvenir notes have no legal tender status anywhere — they are collector pieces issued under a licensed scheme that allows cultural and tourist venues across Europe to produce zero-denomination notes in the physical format of genuine euro banknotes. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the major security printers that has produced actual circulating euro issues, manufactures the series, which gives these pieces a legitimately high production standard despite their novelty purpose.
The 2020 Zandvoort release coincided with the Dutch Grand Prix's return to the Formula 1 calendar after a 35-year absence, the race having last appeared in 1985.
