The 0 Euro souvenir program, administered under the Euro Souvenir brand, began in France around 2015 and expanded rapidly into a collector-driven market with no pretense of monetary function. Oberthur Fiduciaire produces these notes to genuine security-printing standards — watermarks, UV-reactive inks, and serial numbers — making them technically more sophisticated than many circulating issues from smaller sovereign states.

Römerberg is Frankfurt's reconstructed medieval square, the historical seat of Holy Roman Emperor coronation banquets. The rebuilding of its half-timbered façades was completed only in 1986, meaning the "old town" depicted is largely postwar reconstruction.
