Schloss Schönborn in Heusenstamm, Hesse, was the ancestral seat of the Schönborn family — one of the most politically powerful noble dynasties in the Holy Roman Empire, producing four prince-bishops and two Imperial Vice-Chancellors within a single century. The castle itself dates to the mid-seventeenth century, though it passed out of family hands long ago and is now municipal property.

Oberthur Fiduciaire's involvement in the souvenir euro program lends these notes genuine security printing credentials — the watermark is not decorative; it's the same infrastructure applied to circulating currency.
