Jerzy Gorgoń was a defender for Górnik Zabrze and a key figure in Poland's third-place finish at the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany — arguably the high-water mark of Polish football. This souvenir note was issued under the Euro Souvenir programme, which launched in 2012 and operates under formal agreement with the European Central Bank, allowing the "0 Euro" denomination on cotton-substrate notes that mimic genuine euro specifications without holding legal tender status.

Oberthur Fiduciaire, the French security printer, handles the entire programme's production. The watermark is the only active security feature — included largely to prevent the notes from being passed as genuine currency rather than for any collectible purpose.
