Kremnica, a small town in central Slovakia, has operated one of the world's oldest continuously running mints — in production since 1328. The choice as a souvenir subject is apt: the town's identity is inseparable from the history of coinage in Central Europe, having struck currency for the Hungarian Kingdom, the Habsburg Empire, and later Czechoslovakia.

Printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under the Euro Souvenir program, which licenses the euro banknote format for commemorative issues bearing no monetary value. R. Faille's signature as CEO appears in the position conventionally reserved for a central bank governor — a small irony given the note's deliberately non-monetary status.
