Oberthur's 0 Euro souvenir program, launched around 2015, exploits the legal framework that allows eurozone member states to issue genuine legal tender at face values of their choosing — including zero. These notes are printed to full euro security specifications, complete with embedded strip, UV-reactive inks, and intaglio printing, making them technically indistinguishable from circulating currency in terms of production cost. The economics only work because collectors pay a retail premium, typically several euros, for a note worth nothing.
Faille's signature appears on every note in the series regardless of subject matter — a reminder that these are commercial products, not central bank instruments.
