The zero-euro souvenir note format was introduced in France in 2015 by Richard Faille, targeting the tourist trade as a legally denominated but non-circulating collectible. Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the series using genuine euro-specification security paper and intaglio techniques — the same production standards applied to circulating currency — which is precisely what makes them attractive to collectors and nearly impossible to counterfeit convincingly.
Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde sits on Marseille's highest natural point, 162 metres above sea level. The belfry referenced in the title was completed in 1853, two years before the basilica itself.
