Beniowski is one of those figures both Poland and Hungary claim with equal conviction — born in the Kingdom of Hungary to a Polish noble family, he led a mutiny against Russian captors in Kamchatka in 1771, escaped across the Pacific, and eventually died in 1786 commanding his own short-lived kingdom in Madagascar. The Euro Souvenir program, administered under license from the European Central Bank, began issuing these zero-denomination collector pieces from 2013 onward, printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire to full legal security specifications despite having no transactional value.
Adrian Ferda designed this 2022 issue for the Polish souvenir banknote market, where Beniowski enjoys recurring commemorative attention — the Madagascar chapter alone has generated postage stamps, novels, and now this.
