The zero-euro souvenir note program, administered by NEAG and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, began in earnest around 2015 and has since produced hundreds of regional and tourist-site issues across Europe. These notes carry no legal tender value and were never intended for circulation — they exist purely as collectibles, sold directly at the featured location. Oberthur prints them to genuine banknote specification, including the holographic strip, which gives the series its odd credibility as a physical object.
The Schärding Silberzeile issue commemorates the famous baroque townhouse façade along the Inn river in Upper Austria, one of the more architecturally distinctive streetscapes in the region.
