The Trabant Museum in Berlin opened in 2014, operating out of a location in Mitte where the car's cult status among Ostalgie enthusiasts was already well established. These zero-denomination Euro souvenir notes have no legal tender status but are produced to genuine banknote specification — Oberthur's involvement is not ceremonial. The hologram strip meets the same physical security standard applied to circulating issues, which is precisely the point: collectors pay a premium for something that feels real.

The Trabi itself was manufactured in Zwickau from 1957 until 1991, its two-stroke engine and Duroplast body outlasting the state that produced it by mere months.
