EuroSouvenir notes occupy an odd corner of notaphily — legal in design terms because they carry no denomination that could be confused with circulating currency, yet printed by genuine security printers to genuine security standards. Oberthur Fiduciaire, which has produced currency for dozens of sovereign states, applies the same substrate and intaglio processes here as it does to notes that actually buy things.
This particular piece commemorates Van Gogh's 1888 Arles painting, made in the same year he cut his ear. He painted the bedroom three times.
