Euroscope GmbH produced this "Memo Euro" series as educational novelty items, not legal tender — the 0 denomination makes the point unambiguously. Royal Joh. Enschedé of Haarlem, one of Europe's oldest and most technically accomplished security printers, handled production, which is an unusual choice for a souvenir item; Enschedé's client list has historically included central banks across Europe and beyond.
"Der Grüne" references Wuppertal's Schwebebahn, the suspended monorail opened in 1901 and still operating — one of the oldest electric elevated railways in the world still running its original route.
