The MEMO Euro series is a Dutch novelty denomination — zero-value commemorative notes produced by Euro Scope and printed by Enschedé in Haarlem, a firm that has supplied security-printed currency to governments worldwide since the early eighteenth century. Using a genuine security printer gives these pieces a finish that separates them sharply from tourist souvenir schlock: proper intaglio, correct paper feel, and the kind of production discipline usually reserved for legal tender.
The Markthal edition commemorates Rotterdam's covered market hall, opened in 2014 — a structure that became architecturally significant almost immediately upon completion.
