Memo Euros are a Dutch promotional novelty series designed to mimic euro banknote aesthetics while remaining legally distinct from currency — each denomination in the set corresponds to a specific Dutch island, municipality, or region, with Vlieland representing one of the five Frisian island subjects. Euro Scope commissioned Enschedé for the print run, a logical choice given the firm's centuries-long relationship with Dutch fiduciary printing, though the security thread here is decorative in function rather than regulatory in purpose.
Vlieland is the least populated of the Frisian islands, with a permanent population under 1,200 and no through road off the island.
