| Obverse description | The obverse is issued to commemorate the 140th anniversary of Charles Darwin's death, centred on a large intaglio-style portrait vignette of Darwin rendered in deep burgundy tones over a multicolour guilloche underprint. To the left, a bold numeral '0' is accompanied by the Union Jack flag, a ring of twelve gold stars, a schematic tree-of-life diagram, and the facsimile handwritten notation 'I think' drawn from Darwin's original notebook.
