Obverse description Central vignette shows three soldiers in silhouette against a fiery sunset sky. At left, a circular guilloche frame surrounds a Republic of Vietnam Service medal vignette in gold tones; at right, a black circular vignette bears the POW-MIA emblem with silhouetted prisoner motif. Denomination 1,000,000 appears at all four corners within an ornate engraved border.

Reverse description Central oval vignette portrays three soldiers tending to a wounded comrade against a sunset background, framed by laurel sprays. At upper left, the POW-MIA emblem appears beneath the inscription "THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS WRITTEN ON THE WALL". At right, the Republic of Vietnam Service ribbon in color is printed above the "ONE MILLION / NOT LEGAL TENDER" legend. Names of the first and last official casualties of the Vietnam War are inscribed at lower left and right respectively.
