Obverse description The obverse is printed in black intaglio on an orange-tinted paper. At left, a classical allegorical female figure seated beside a globe and anchor forms the central vignette, rendered in fine engraved detail. The bank title 'El Banco del Ecuador' appears in ornate script across the upper portion, with the denomination 'UN MIL SUCRES' printed in large bold letters at centre and repeated as a bold red overprint diagonally across the face; the place of issue 'Guayaquil' and the numeral '1000' appear in the lower field, with the printer's imprint along the lower border.
