Sudan redenominated its currency in 2011 following South Sudan's secession, and the monetary system has been under sustained pressure ever since — hyperinflationary episodes, sanctions fallout, and the 2023 civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have all disrupted both printing schedules and distribution. A 1000 Pound denomination at this point in Sudan's monetary history reflects cumulative inflation rather than any single policy decision.
