Obverse description The national coat of arms of Panama occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by an eagle with spread wings, flanked by sprigs of laurel and palm. The upper register of the shield displays crossed sword and rifle representing the end of civil wars, the upper sinister quarter bears a cornucopia, the lower dexter quarter shows a shovel and pickaxe, and the lower sinister quarter features a winged wheel. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE PANAMA arcs along the upper periphery, accompanied by a row of nine stars below it. The mint mark FM and the date 1985 appear in the lower field.
