Reverse description The reverse bears a bold Arabic inscription in Naskh-influenced calligraphic script occupying the majority of the central field, reading 'Juzayrat Fulu Finangh' (meaning 'Island of Pulau Pinang'), identifying the place of issue as Prince of Wales Island (Penang). The legend is arranged in two or three lines across the field, with decorative separating ornaments above and below the text. The coin is encircled by a milled border consistent with the obverse. The Arabic lettering is rendered in a confident, flowing hand typical of Calcutta Mint production of the period.
