Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of George IV facing left, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style by Pistrucci, with a laurel wreath bound by a ribbon at the nape and a fibula at the shoulder. The effigy displays finely detailed hair curls beneath the wreath and a truncated drapery at the base of the neck. The peripheral legend reads GEOR·IV D·G· to the left and BRI·REX· to the right, separated by stops, all within a beaded border.

The word COLONIAL arcs across the upper periphery, spaced between the wreath branches. The date 1823 appears in the exergue below the wreath, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
