Obverse description The obverse presents a young, undraped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair drawn back and secured in a chignon with a fillet diadem, rendered in fine high relief characteristic of Leonard Charles Wyon's engraving. The effigy is surrounded by a continuous Latin legend reading VICTORIA D.G. BRITANNIAR. REGINA F.D. along the upper and lower periphery, with the date appearing at the base of the coin below the truncation. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent beaded border.
