| Obverse description | Hammered copper flan of irregular round form bearing a two-line Arabic legend in the field, divided by a horizontal rule. The upper register contains the honorific title 'Ala and the lower register the regal name Mahmud Shah, referencing Sultan Mahmud Shah I of the Malwa Sultanate (r. 1436-1468). The script is executed in a bold, somewhat crude Naskh style typical of provincial Malwa copper coinage. The surface shows characteristic green patination and die wear consistent with hand-struck issues of this period. |
