Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King George III facing right, rendered in high relief with classical Roman styling. The king wears a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape, and a draped mantle secured at the shoulder. The circumferential legend reads GEORGIUS III D:G:BRITANNIARUM REX, separated from the bust by a fine dentillated border. The effigy is engraved in the refined neoclassical manner characteristic of Thomas Wyon the Younger.
