Additional information

Turkey's postwar small-denomination brass coinage of this period was minted largely to address a severe shortage of circulating fractional coins — wartime metal requisitioning and import restrictions had gutted the supply. The 1948 issue falls within a short production window before inflationary pressure made the half-kuruş economically meaningless, and the denomination was quietly abandoned within a few years.
