| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Shia religious legend in elegant Nasta'liq calligraphy, arranged in two registers separated by a horizontal line dividing the flan. The upper register bears the opening portion of the Shia profession of faith invoking the Imamate, while the lower register continues the invocation. The inscription reads, in translation: 'If there is an Imam from east to west, Ali and his family sufficeth for us.' The script fills the irregular circular flan to its edges, with no decorative border, consistent with hammered Safavid gold coinage of the late sixteenth century. |

| Reverse description | The reverse field is fully covered by a multi-line royal titulature inscription in Nasta'liq script, arranged in two registers separated by a horizontal ruled line across the flan. The upper register carries the regnal titles and name of the issuing sovereign, while the lower register records the mint name Qazvin and the AH date 984. The legends are boldly struck, though slightly off-center due to the characteristic irregularity of hammered production, and no decorative motifs or border elements are present. |
