The circular legend HALFPENNY TOKEN arcs around the upper portion of the design, separated from the field by a continuous beaded inner border. The four-digit date 1823 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the thistle. The thistle motif alludes to the Scottish heritage of Nova Scotia's early settlers. |
