| Obverse description | The obverse features the heraldic eagle of the Stanley family displayed in high relief at the centre of the field, wings spread and head turned to the left, perched atop a ducal coronet resting on a scroll or bracket. The eagle's detailed feathering and the ornamental base are rendered in a bold, baroque style typical of early 18th-century British provincial coinage. The motto legend SANS · CHANGER (meaning 'Without Change', the Stanley family motto) arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The date 1733 appears in the lower field beneath the coronet. The coin's border is formed by a finely executed toothed or milled rim. |
