Reverse description Central ornate cross composed of the interlaced monogram of Honoré III, surmounted by a princely crown at the top. The arms of the cross are decorated with lozenge-shaped ornaments in the angles, and small decorative elements fill the quarters. The date 1735 appears within the circular Latin legend AUXILIVM MEVM A DOMINO (My help comes from the Lord), separated by a rosette, all within a beaded border.

Additional information

Honoré III was thirteen years old when this coin was struck, the Principality still formally under French protection following the Treaty of Peronne. Billon coinage of this type circulated primarily among Monaco's working population — the denomination too small for merchants, too necessary for daily transactions to ignore. The Gad#MC99 series is notoriously inconsistent in planchet quality, a direct consequence of Monaco's limited minting infrastructure in the 1730s.
