Obverse description Central pomegranate device flanked by the letters 'J' to the left and 'G' to the right, forming the monogram of the Junta de Granada. The date 1823 appears in the lower field. The design is crudely struck on an irregular flan, characteristic of hammered cob coinage produced under emergency conditions.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description Bold cross dividing the field into four quarters, with a castle in the upper-left and lower-right quarters and a rampant lion in the upper-right and lower-left quarters, following the traditional Castile-and-León heraldic arrangement derived from Spanish colonial coinage. The strike is irregular and the details weakly defined, as expected of a primitive hammered cob issue. Pellet or bead ornaments are visible around the periphery of the flan.
