| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned quartered royal arms of Castile and León, bearing castles and lions in alternating quarters with a small pomegranate at base, all surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. The shield is rendered in the macuquina (milled pillar coinage) style characteristic of colonial Spanish American issues. A beaded inner border frames the device, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery in Latin characters. The overall design reflects the standard Bourbon colonial armorial type introduced under the pillar coinage reform. |
