| Obverse description | Central field features the mint name Kurjiyan (Gurjistan/Georgia) inscribed within a circular border, with the ruler's name Isma'il appearing below in Arabic script. The legends are struck in the characteristic Safavid calligraphic style on an irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of the period. The full royal titulature of Shah Isma'il I surrounds the central inscription, reading from the outer legend inward. The strike is characteristic of early Safavid provincial mint production, with some weakness at the flan edges. |
