Obverse description Central device features a palm tree flanked by two recumbent llamas, a design emblematic of Bolivian national symbolism. The composition rests on a simple ground line within a beaded inner border. Thirteen six-pointed stars arc across the upper field surrounding the palm motif. The circular legend REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA is inscribed along the upper periphery, with the mint city PAZ, assayer initial P, and date 1856 appearing in the lower field below the central device.

Reverse description Left-facing laureate bust of Simón Bolívar occupies the central field, rendered in a bold, slightly archaic engraving style characteristic of early Bolivian coinage. The portrait is unadorned save for the laurel wreath, with the truncation of the bust visible at the lower edge. The legend LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION curves along the upper periphery, while the name BOLIVAR appears in the lower field beneath the portrait, enclosed within a beaded border.
