Reverse description Central to the design, the word AUSTRALIA appears in large, bold letters across the field, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown rendered in fine detail. The denomination inscription SYDNEY MINT and HALF SOVEREIGN arcs around the upper and lower periphery respectively, flanking the central motif. A symmetrical wreath of olive or laurel branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, frames the central legend on both sides. The overall composition is bold and heraldic in character, reflecting the aspirations of the newly established Sydney Mint as Australia's first colonial mint.
