Reverse description The reverse displays the armorial shield of the Company of Merchants Trading to Africa, divided horizontally: the upper half bears a cornucopia and stars on a horizontally lined field, while the lower half depicts a fully-rigged sailing ship flying the Union flag upon a sea. The crest above the shield is an elephant passant supporting a castle tower with a flagstaff. Flanking the shield are decorative mantling with floral sprigs. The circular legend reads 'FREE TRADE TO AFRICA. BY ACT. OF PARLIAMENT. 1750.' disposed around the full periphery, with a beaded border.
