Obverse description Central field depicts a panoramic view of the harbour and fortifications of Muscat, featuring Al Jalali Fort prominently among towers, palaces, and palm trees, with sailing vessels rendered in the foreground waters. The denomination '1/4 ANNA' appears in the lower field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, reading 'IMAM OF MUSCAT & OMAN SULTAN FESSAL BIN TOORKY', enclosed within a finely beaded border. The engraving is executed in a detailed pictorial style typical of late 19th-century colonial coinage.

Additional information

Muscat and Oman's coinage in the 1890s was a direct consequence of commerce, not sovereignty — the Sultanate needed small-denomination copper to function in a trading economy dominated by the Maria Theresa Thaler and various Indian issues. Faisal bin Turki, who ruled from 1888 to 1913, commissioned these pieces largely to facilitate bazaar transactions that silver wouldn't reach. The Cordry references distinguishing SC#2 and SC#3 reflect documented die varieties, suggesting at least two distinct production runs across the two-year window.
