| Additional information |
Issued as part of Oman's first major commemorative silver series following Sultan Qaboos bin Said's 1970 coup against his father, Said bin Taimur. The elder sultan had kept Oman in deliberate isolation — no schools, no hospitals, no paved roads — and the new commemorative program was as much a political statement about modernization as it was a numismatic exercise.
KM# 65.1 distinguishes this from the 65.2 variety, the difference residing in the obverse legend spacing. Worth confirming before cataloging.
