| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the cursive royal cypher 'GR' (Georgius Rex) in ornate interlaced script, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown rendered in fine relief. The cypher is flanked on either side by a laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The date '1796' is inscribed in the upper field, divided at left and right by the crown, with '17' appearing to the left and '96' to the right. The coin's milled border frames the entire design. |
