| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Maximian facing right, rendered in a barbarous imitative style characteristic of Germanic tribal coinage. The portrait displays a radiate crown or laurel wreath atop a robust head with simplified facial features typical of barbarian imitations. A garbled, retrograde, or debased Latin legend encircles the bust, imitating the titulature of the Tetrarchic emperor Maximian without accurately reproducing the original inscription. The workmanship reflects the hand of an unofficial die-cutter working outside the imperial mint system, resulting in irregular lettering and stylized portraiture. |
