| Obverse description | Crude barbarian imitation of a Roman imperial aureus, depicting a laureate and draped bust of a male figure facing left, rendered in a simplified, provincial style characteristic of Germanic die-cutting. The portrait, though stylistically debased, retains the general effigy conventions of the mid-to-late third-century Roman imperial coinage. The surrounding field bears a garbled pseudo-legend in imitation Latin characters, reflecting the illiteracy of the engraver with respect to the Roman alphabet. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with primitive hammered production outside the Roman imperial mint system. |
