| Obverse description | Barbarous imitation of a late Roman imperial aureus. Draped and cuirassed bust of an uncertain emperor facing right, with stylized hair rendered in a crude but recognizable Germanic workshop manner. A piercing hole is present at the top of the flan, indicating the coin was mounted and worn as a pendant or prestige ornament. The surrounding legend is garbled and non-meaningful, reflecting the illiteracy of the die-cutter with respect to Latin script. The portrait retains the essential iconographic elements of the Roman imperial type it imitates, including a suggestion of laurel or diadem. |
